Ferry Sinks in rough seas off Bali; 4 dead, dozens missing as search continues –

Must Read

In Indonesia, at least four people have died and dozens are missing after a ferry sank off the coast of Bali late last night. The vessel, which was carrying 53 passengers and 12 crew members, was en route to Bali from the port of Banyuwangi on the eastern tip of Java island when it went down in rough seas. The National Search and Rescue Agency confirmed that 31 people have been rescued so far, while efforts continue to locate the remaining passengers and crew. Initial reports indicate the ferry experienced engine trouble before sinking. While the exact cause is still under investigation, officials have cited bad weather as a likely contributing factor. Many of the passengers on board were residents of Banyuwangi, while others came from inland areas of East Java, likely travelling for tourism or family visits.

President of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto, who is currently on an official visit to Saudi Arabia, has ordered an immediate emergency response.
