Ri-Bhoi/Meghalaya: Several experts highlighted the importance of intercultural communication as a means of transforming the world into a global village at the conference titled Arabic Language and Literature: Learning, Teaching, and Translation held at the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM).

USTM, in partnership with Assam University, Silchar, hosted the conference, which was overseen by Mohammed Basheer K, who serves as the Department Head of Arabic at Assam University, Silchar, reported EastMojo.

Dr. Eassa Ali Mohammed Ali, from the Department of Translation at Sanaa University in Yemen, stated, The world has become a global village owing to fast communication.

This communication has led to language and cultural exchanges that have resulted in mutual understanding, tolerance, peace, brotherhood and integration.

Emphasizing the importance of intercultural communication in preventing conflicts arising from diversity at various levels, Dr Ali, Intercultural communication is essential in the current era as it makes us, as individuals and groups, understand the importance of peaceful coexistence and appreciate other peoples cultures, practices, habits, beliefs and so on.

In this multilingual and multicultural universe, we have easily formed, fostered and improved relationships with each other, she stated.

During the inaugural session, Fatma Rashed Salem Al Maamari, who heads the Cultural Relations at the Sultan Qaboos Higher Centre for Culture and Science in Oman, and Eassa Ali Mohammed Ali were present as the guests of honor.

In the following sessions of the conference, the experts gave four presentations on language and literature, focusing on topics such as learning, teaching, and translation.

The conference began with an engaging presentation by Fatma Rashed Salem Al Maamari, who spoke about the Significance of Language and Culture in a Global Context.

Followed by Eassa Ali Mohammed Alis enlightening talk on Promoting Integrity and Brotherhood through Cultural and Linguistic Exchange.

Abbas KP, an assistant professor from Farook College in Kerala, delivered a presentation on the Distinctive Features of the Arabic Language, while Ubaidur Rahman, a research scholar at Aliah University in Kolkata, discussed Language as a Means of Enriching Literature.

After the presentations, an interactive session was conducted between the resource persons, students, and faculty members of USTM, which proved to be an engaging experience for all.

The conference concluded with this session, marking the end of the event.
