External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar and his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov reviewed the entire gamut of India-Russia bilateral relations during their meeting in Moscow today. In a joint press briefing after the talks, both Ministers reaffirmed shared ambition to expand bilateral trade in a balanced and sustainable manner, including by increasing India’s exports to Russia. Dr Jaishankar stressed that this requires swiftly addressing non tariff barriers and regulatory impediments. He remarked that enhancing Indian exports to Russia in sectors like pharmaceuticals, agriculture and textiles will help to correct the current imbalance. Steps to ensure long term supply of fertilisers was also taken up. Dr Jaishankar added that Indian skilled workers, expecially in IT, construction and engineering can address the labour needs in Russia and deepen collaboration. He emphasised that sustaining energy collaboration through trade and investments is also important.
