Eid-uz-Zuha, the festival of sacrifice or Baqrid is being celebrated with religious fervour and gaiety in various parts of the country today. The faithfuls are offering prayers in Eidgahs and mosques.
 

In the national capital, Delhi, devotees have gathered in large numbers at the Jama Masjid, Fatehpuri mosque and Shahi Eidgah to offer prayers on the occasion. Elaborate security arrangements have been made across the National Capital in view of the festival. The Delhi Police is also conducting citywide patrolling to ensure safe and peaceful celebration of the festival in all areas of the city.
 
A strict advisory has also been issued by the Delhi government against the illegal killing of cows, calves, camels and other prohibited animals. The city government has also imposed a ban on taking and sharing of photos of sacrificial rituals and also directed that the rituals must occur exclusively at designated locations and not in public spaces.
 

Eid-uz-Zuha is celebrated to commemorate the willingness of Hazrat Ibrahim to sacrifice his only son in obedience of God’s command. The festival is also known as Eid al-Adha or Eid ul-Azha.
