In football, East Bengal and Diamond Harbour FC booked their places in the Durand Cup 2025 semifinals with big quarter-final wins yesterday.
East Bengal defeated arch-rivals Mohun Bagan Super Giant 2-1 at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata. Greek striker Dimitrios Diamantakos came off the bench to score both goals for the Red and Golds. Anirudh Thapa pulled one back for Bagan, but East Bengal held firm to seal the victory. The 16-time Durand Cup champions will now face debutants Diamond Harbour in the semis.
In Jamshedpur, Diamond Harbour FC caused a huge upset, beating ISL side Jamshedpur FC 2-0 to storm into the semi-finals at the JRD Tata Sports Complex. Defender Ruatkima struck twice in the first half, and despite heavy pressure from JFC after the break, goalkeeper Mirshad and a disciplined backline ensured the clean sheet. The win marked a dream Durand Cup debut for Diamond Harbour, who joined Shillong Lajong and NorthEast United in the last four.
