In a recent evaluation conducted by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Tripura has emerged as a prominent ‘leader’ among states, recognized for its robust ecosystem fostering the growth of startups. The annual exercise by DPIIT assessed the endeavors of 33 states and Union Territories (UTs) in cultivating an environment conducive to the development of startups.
The states and UTs were categorized into five groups based on their population size, differentiating between those with more than 1 crore and those with less than 1 crore residents. The evaluation aimed to support regions in enhancing their startup ecosystems and facilitate the exchange of best practices among them.
Gujarat, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Himachal Pradesh secured the distinction of being labeled ‘best performers’ in the development of startup ecosystems, highlighting their significant efforts to support budding entrepreneurs.
Another set of states, including Maharashtra, Odisha, Punjab, Rajasthan, Telangana, Arunachal Pradesh, and Meghalaya, earned the accolade of ‘top performers,’ underscoring their notable contributions to nurturing startup environments.
The ‘leader’ category, which Tripura proudly joined, also featured Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Goa, and Manipur. These states were recognized for their effective strategies and initiatives in supporting and promoting startup ventures.
States and UTs aspiring to elevate their status in the startup ecosystem were classified as ‘aspiring leaders.’ This category included Bihar, Haryana, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and Nagaland.
The group of ’emerging startup ecosystems’ comprised Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir, Chandigarh, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, Ladakh, Mizoram, Puducherry, and Sikkim. These regions showcased potential and a growing inclination towards fostering startup activities.
The DPIIT’s annual ranking not only acknowledges the efforts of different states and UTs but also serves as a platform for mutual learning, encouraging the adoption of best practices to further enhance the startup landscape across the country. Tripura’s recognition as a ‘leader’ reflects its commitment to providing a conducive environment for the flourishing startup ecosystem within its boundaries.
