Culture and Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat has highlighted that the country’s domestic tourist visits increased from nearly 120 crore in 2014 to 250 crore in 2023. Mr Shekhawat was interacting with the media about the initiatives and development in the tourism sector in New Delhi today. He stressed that India’s ranking in the Global Travel and Tourism Development Index has jumped from sixty fifth to thirty ninth in the last ten years. Mr Shekhawat added that the tourism sector created more than seven crore jobs in the years 2022 to 2023.

The Culture Minister also highlighted goverment’s plan to build the world’s biggest museum in front of Rashtrapati Bhawan to showcase the evolution of ten thousand years of the country.

Further, Mr Shekhawat highlighted that the government aims to set up a cultural village at the upcoming Maha Kumbh in Uttar Pradesh next year. He said that the village will showcase the rich spiritual and cultural heritage of the country. Mr Shekhawat also highlighted that the government has recognized Assamese, Marathi, Pali, Prakrit and Bengal as classical languages which expands the total number of classical Indian languages to eleven.
