Domestic markets end in negative territory

 
Benchmark domestic equity indices ended in negative territory today. The Sensex plunged 778 points or one per cent to close at 74,004. The Nifty shed 280 points or 1.2 per cent to settle at 23,119. 
 
The broader market also witnessed a sharp decline, with the Nifty Midcap 100 index falling 2.1 per cent and the Nifty Smallcap 100 index losing 2.4 per cent.
