The involvement of resettled Brus in the recent violence in Gandacherra has deeply unsettled both local residents and administrative authorities. According to a comprehensive intelligence report, young individuals from two Bru resettlement camps located at Jagabandhu Para and Kalajhari were allegedly involved in acts of arson and vandalism that unfolded on the night of July 12.

The report meticulously outlined the extent of the damage inflicted during the one-sided ethnic violence. It documented that a total of 67 houses, spread across different areas including 33 KV Motor Stand (14 houses), 6/7 Card (25 houses), 20 Card (13 houses), Durgaour (3 houses), and 30 Card (12 houses), were set ablaze. The fires also engulfed commercial properties, with eight shops burning down at Narayanpur market, and three shops being ransacked at MR Das Para (2 shops) and Narayanpur (1 shop).

Beyond property destruction, the violence resulted in the vandalization of 16 vehicles, including eight motorcycles, among which two belonged to law enforcement (police and TSR). Additionally, a distressing number of livestock were killed in the rampage, with reports citing the deaths of 5 goats, 10 cows, and an estimated 40-50 chickens.

The unrest was sparked by the tragic death of a local youth, an incident that not only led to widespread property damage but also deeply impacted the affected families. The aftermath of the violence has heightened tensions in the region, prompting urgent measures from authorities to restore calm and prevent any further escalation of hostilities.
