The Advocate Dilip Sarkar Memorial Debate, an annual event focusing on pressing social and global issues, will be held on November 29 at Rabindra Bhavan, Agartala. The program, set to begin at 6 PM, will be inaugurated by Tripura’s Minister of Tourism, Transport, Food, and Civil Supplies, Sushanta Chowdhury.

This year’s debate centers on the theme “National Interest Demands Regulation of Social Media.” Established three years ago in memory of Advocate Dilip Sarkar, a noted lawyer and cultural figure, the debate aims to foster legal awareness, promote rational thinking, and encourage intellectual engagement among the youth.

Eminent personalities from Tripura and Kolkata will grace the panel, including Senior IAS officer and Chief Electoral Officer of Tripura, Brijesh Pandey; Kolkata’s popular Radio Mirchi presenter, Agnijit Sen; West Bengal writer Chandril Bhattacharya; Tripura-based diabetes specialist Dr. Basab Ghosh; LIC Senior Marketing Manager Nabaran Ghosh; and academicians like Assistant Professor Sayak Mukherjee and Dr. Ripan Bhattacharya. Advocate Rajshri Purkayastha will also join as a panelist. Renowned cardiac surgeon Dr. Kunal Sarkar will moderate the session.

Each panelist will be allotted six minutes to present their views, followed by a two-minute rebuttal round for selected participants.

According to Subrata Sarkar, Senior Advocate and program head, the event not only seeks to address critical societal issues but also aims to nurture the art of structured debate and reasoned argumentation, particularly among the younger generation.
