DDU-GKY 2.0 has launched a new skill development programme for 70 rural youths in Khayerpur, Agartala. The 90-day residential training initiative aims to improve employability, provide industry-oriented retail skills and connect Tripura’s youth with nationwide job opportunities.

A new batch of 70 rural youths has started vocational training under the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY) 2.0 at Khayerpur in Agartala. The programme aims to equip young people with industry-oriented skills and connect them with employment opportunities across the country.

The training programme was formally launched through a Batch Freezing Ceremony at the training centre of CLR Facilities Pvt. Ltd. in Khayerpur. The newly enrolled candidates have been divided into two batches and will undergo training in the Retail Sales Associate course.

The 90-day training programme is being implemented under DDU-GKY 2.0, a rural skill development initiative designed to improve the employability of young people from rural communities. The course focuses on preparing participants for careers in the organised retail sector and other service-oriented industries that offer employment opportunities across India.

A key feature of the initiative is its comprehensive residential training arrangement, which allows participants to concentrate on learning without facing additional financial pressure. Trainees are being provided with free accommodation, meals, study materials, uniforms, tablets and other educational support throughout the programme.

Separate hostel facilities have also been arranged for male and female participants to ensure a suitable residential learning environment.

Officials associated with the programme said the initiative goes beyond basic vocational training, focusing on creating sustainable livelihood opportunities for rural youth. After successfully completing the course, participants will become eligible for placement opportunities in organised retail outlets, shopping malls, airports and other customer-service-oriented establishments across different parts of the country.

The programme is expected to help participants develop practical knowledge, professional skills and workplace readiness required by employers in the organised service sector.

The launch ceremony was attended by Tarit Kanti Chakma, IAS, Chief Executive Officer of Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM) and Chief Operating Officer (Skills), TRLM, along with the State Head of CLR Facilities Pvt. Ltd.

During the programme, newly enrolled trainees were handed over books, uniforms, tablets and other essential learning materials required for their training. The distribution was aimed at ensuring that participants had access to the necessary resources from the beginning of their learning journey.

The trainees, representing different districts of Tripura, expressed enthusiasm about joining the programme. For many rural participants, the initiative provides an opportunity to receive structured professional training and explore employment prospects that may otherwise be difficult to access.

Officials highlighted that DDU-GKY 2.0 is focused on bridging the gap between rural job seekers and industry requirements through market-oriented training. By aligning vocational courses with the needs of employers, the programme seeks to develop a skilled workforce capable of competing in the national employment market.

The organised retail and service sectors offer opportunities for young people with appropriate communication, customer-handling and professional skills. The training programme is expected to help participants acquire these competencies and improve their chances of securing wage-based employment.

The initiative also reflects broader efforts to promote economic independence among rural households by creating opportunities for young people to pursue professional careers beyond their immediate localities.

With 70 trainees beginning their 90-day residential programme in Khayerpur, Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission continues its efforts to strengthen skill development and employment opportunities for rural communities.

Through the DDU-GKY 2.0, the initiative aims to transform rural job seekers into trained professionals, improve access to organised-sector employment and support the long-term economic empowerment of Tripura’s youth.
