On Saturday, opposition CPI-M leaders and party members in Tripura began a week-long fund collection drive to support those affected by the landslide in Kerala’s Wayanad district. Leading the effort in Agartala were former Tripura Chief Minister and CPI-M Politburo member Manik Sarkar, former minister Manik Dey, and former Lok Sabha member Sankar Prasad Datta.

Kerala is ruled by CPM and the party here felt a natural empathy for the Wayanad disaster victims.

Sarkar announced that the CPI-M has launched this fund collection drive statewide to aid the people impacted by the disaster in Wayanad. Tripura Leader of Opposition and CPI-M state Secretary Jitendra Chaudhury highlighted that the party’s state committee had previously decided to donate Rs 10 lakh to the Kerala Chief Minister’s relief fund for the landslide victims in Wayanad.

“We urge the people of Tripura to donate money generously to support the distressed people of Wayanad,” Chaudhury said during a media briefing.
