CPI-M state secretary and sitting MLA Jiten Choudhury has accused the ruling BJP government of failing to maintain law and order in the state, following the tragic death of 38-year-old Badal Tripura. The resident of Kaladhepa area in South Tripura allegedly died due to police torture after being detained for stealing rubber from a constable’s station in Manu Bazaar.

During his visit to the bereaved family in Manu Bazaar, Choudhury condemned the BJP government, claiming that their promises of development and welfare schemes were empty. “Despite the government’s tall claims, Badal Tripura’s family could not afford his treatment due to financial constraints. They lack access to schemes like Ayushman Bharat and the Mukhyamantri Swasthya Yojana,” Choudhury remarked.

Although five police officers, including a sub-inspector, have been arrested in connection with the case, Choudhury expressed doubts over the likelihood of proper legal action. He called for strict punishment for the accused and demanded adequate compensation for the victim’s family.
