In a major road accident at midnight on Shalbagan road in the city outskirt a couple died on the spot while several others were injured.

The accident occurred when two vehicles a Echo car and a Mahindra XUV vehicle collided head on in a breakneck speed. The jawans having heard the sound of the crashing cars rushed and informed the police and fire service. The deceased couple -Manik Sarkar who was driving the car and his wife Rupali died on the spot. Their bodies had to be brought out by cutting the car doors. Fortunately, couple’s two children Prince and Rudradwip escaped with mild injuries. One of the passengers in the vehicle Brajendra Das was also grievously hurt in the accident. They were all resident of Sidhai Mohanpur and had gone to attend a wedding ceremony at Camperbazar.

Two persons from the XUV vehicle – which was on a raging speed and dashed the Echo Car -Shuvam Saha and Gaurab Saha were injured in the accident but five of their friends fled from the scene immediately after the accident.

Manik Sarkar and his family with Brajendra Das were returning from a wedding ceremony when the accident occurred. On the other hand the seven youths were reportedly in inebriated condition and they had been on a joyride that ended with a hellish nightmare.

Police are on the look out for the five youths who fled from the scene.
