A 17-years old minor girl and her 21-years old boyfriend poisoned themselves fearing family disapproval of their relationship. The couple fell unconscious inside a police station and slow poisoning led to their deaths, SDPO Karbook Raju Renag said.

The incident took place on Friday last when based on a police complaint lodged by the girl’s father, police traced the couple after elopement and kept them at Silachari police station. They were supposed to be handed over to their families but reaction of the poison started to develop and they rushed to hospital, he added.

According to police sources, the minor girl from Gandacherra (Dhalai District) fell in love with Ananda Chakma (21), a resident of Sabroom under South Tripura district. Due to sharp disapproval of the family, the couple eloped recently.

Enraged by the act of his daughter, her father lodged an FIR with the Gandacherra Police Station alleging that his daughter was kidnapped by Chakma.

After receiving the complaint, Police investigation began leading to their hideout at Silachari. After being found, they were kept in the police station and their families were informed of their whereabouts.

It is suspected that they had consumed the poison much before they were arrested. But, the police had been contemplating ordering a departmental inquiry.

The girl died at Gomati district hospital, Udaipur while her boyfriend breathed his last at GBP hospital Agartala.
