Former PCC president and incumbent Congress MLA Birajit Sinha has raised concerns about his safety after reportedly receiving a death threat from a suspected mafia group. Sinha has formally requested increased personal security to ensure his safety.

Addressing the media during a press conference, Sinha disclosed that he had written letters to the Speaker of the Tripura Legislative Assembly, the Director General of Police, and the Superintendent of Police (Unakoti district) to bring attention to the alleged threat.

Sinha claimed that a mafia group led by Abdul Mannan, a resident of Gobindapur in Kailashahar, had been manipulating tender works associated with the office of the Executive Engineer, Kumarghat division, Department of Water Supply (DWS). He asserted that his involvement in addressing this issue had made him a target of the alleged mafia group’s threats.

The Congress MLA shared that an audio recording had surfaced, implicating an individual named Abdul Mannan and his associates in a 2003 assault. Sinha expressed concern that this group was planning a fresh attempt on his life. He stated, “They intend to attack and potentially kill me, either at my residence at Kailashahar or my residence in Agartala.”

Sinha referenced a past incident in 2003 during an electoral campaign in Baburbazar, Kailashahar, where he was subjected to an attack resulting in the loss of his Personal Guard. He emphasized that such incidents have occurred subsequently across the state, leading him to file First Information Reports (FIRs) after each episode to document these distressing events.

He called for immediate action against the alleged mafia group and requested heightened personal security to ensure his safety against potential threats.

As the situation unfolds, local authorities are expected to take necessary measures to investigate the alleged threat and ensure the safety of Birajit Sinha. The incident highlights the complex interplay of politics and security concerns faced by public figures in various regions.
