Cong Gears Up for TTAADC Elections with Full Force, Plans Massive Show of Strength at Ambassa
In a significant political development ahead of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections, the Congress Party has announced its decision to contest the polls with full strength and commitment, marking a renewed push into the tribal political landscape of Tripura. As part of this strategy, the party is organizing a massive public gathering at Ambassa on Tuesday, aiming to energize its cadre and reach out to the tribal electorate.

The announcement was made by Tripura Pradesh Congress President Asish Kumar Saha during a press conference held at the Congress Bhavan in Agartala. Flanked by senior party leaders including AICC Tripura in-charge Saptagiri Sankar Ulaka, Saha outlined the Congress Party’s renewed focus on tribal issues and pledged to offer a viable alternative to the ruling forces in the upcoming elections.
“The Tripura Adivasi Congress, our tribal wing, has been working tirelessly across remote and interior areas to build a solid organizational base. We are confident and determined to contest the upcoming TTAADC elections with full force and utilize all our resources to connect with the tribal people,” said Saha.
Reviving the Party’s Tribal Outreach
The Congress Party, which once held considerable influence in tribal regions of Tripura, has seen its base erode over the past decade, largely due to the rise of regional parties and shifting alliances. With the TIPRA Motha party gaining dominance in the TTAADC area and the BJP-IPFT alliance maintaining control at the state level, the Congress has been pushed to the political periphery in tribal politics.
Now, with the TTAADC elections on the horizon, the party appears keen to reclaim its lost ground by directly addressing the grievances of the tribal populace.
Saha was sharp in his criticism of the current administration’s failure to deliver basic amenities to tribal people living in the hilly regions.
“There is unprecedented economic distress in rural Tripura. The law and order situation has deteriorated. The tribal population is disillusioned and unhappy with the parties in power, both in the Council and in the state,” he remarked.
Congress Slams “Double Engine” Government’s Neglect of Tribal Regions
Adding to the criticism, AICC in-charge Saptagiri Sankar Ulaka accused the BJP-led “double engine” government of systematically neglecting the tribal regions of Tripura, especially the TTAADC areas.
“In other Sixth Schedule areas across India, the central government has established central universities and premier institutions. But the TTAADC remains the only Sixth Schedule region without a single central university. This speaks volumes about the Centre’s neglect,” Ulaka asserted.
He further pointed out that essential infrastructure such as roads, sanitation, and drinking water remains in a dismal state across most of the tribal belt.
“Development in Tripura is limited to select areas and elite groups. The tribal communities in the hills are still deprived of basic facilities like clean water, roads, and toilets. We are going to fight this injustice,” he added.
Focus on Employment, Skill Development
The Congress leadership also emphasized the importance of providing proper employment opportunities and skill development programs tailored for tribal youth.
“The lack of jobs and vocational training avenues is pushing tribal youth into distress and insecurity. Congress will focus on introducing policies that offer long-term livelihood solutions and empower the next generation in TTAADC areas,” Ulaka said.
He also highlighted the Congress Party’s national commitment to uplift tribal communities and assured that this commitment would be translated into action in Tripura.
Congress Looks to Build Momentum from Grassroots
The scheduled rally at Ambassa is expected to be the Congress Party’s first major show of strength in the tribal region in recent years. Leaders from across the state, members of the Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee, and functionaries of Tripura Adivasi Congress are mobilizing supporters and grassroots workers to ensure a significant turnout.
Senior leaders like Christopher Tilak, along with other Pradesh Congress Committee members, were also present at the press briefing and reiterated their dedication to rejuvenating the party’s tribal outreach.
With this move, the Congress is signaling its serious intent to not only contest the TTAADC elections but also reshape the tribal political narrative in Tripura—positioning itself as a credible alternative to both the ruling BJP alliance and TIPRA Motha, which currently holds sway over the Council.
As election dates draw closer, all eyes will be on how effectively the Congress can convert this renewed enthusiasm into electoral success in one of the most politically sensitive regions of the state.
