The 162nd birth anniversary of Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore was celebrated across the state with great enthusiasm and pomp.
While all schools, several cultural organizations and institutions organized colourful cultural programmes with song , dance, recitation, dance-drama etc with small children and elders state government also held several programmes.
The morning began with Prabhat feri and later Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha offered floral tribute to the Kabiguru in a programme at Rabindra Kanan near Circuit House. A cultural programme was also held in the event.
The Chief Minister in his brief speech dwelt on the life and contributions of Kabiguru and exhorted all to follow his path and philosophy of life.
The Information and Cultural Affairs Department organized also a special event called ‘Kabi Pranam’ in Agartala to pay tribute to the legendary poet. Former Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma graced the occasion as the chief guest and called Tagore a shining star in the arena of literature and culture. In his speech, Dev Varma emphasized the importance of practicing Tagore’s works to benefit the present generation, stating that the more his works are practiced, the more the current generation will be enriched.
The event was attended by various dignitaries, including Mayor Dipak Majumder, secretary of the ICA Dr PK Chakraborty, Assistant High Commissioner of Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala Arif Mohammad, and MLA of Bishalgarh Sushanta Deb. Later, a seminar was organized, in which Dr Sourish Debbarma discussed the ‘Royal family and Rabindranath,’ and a retired professor of Agartala Women’s College Dr Narayan Bhattacharjee spoke about Rabindranath’s life as a poet.
Former Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma noted that Rabindranath Tagore was a great example of humanity, whose teachings and writings remain relevant today, just as they were when he first penned them. The celebration of his birth anniversary through different cultural programs and acts of kindness is a testament to the enduring legacy of his works and ideals.
Netaji Subhash Facebook Page observed Rabindranath Tagore’s birth anniversary differently. The page members distributed cold drinks and snacks to pedestrians and children on the hot and humid day in Tripura. The aim was to celebrate the occasion by spreading joy and happiness to people around them.
Meanwhile, at Kabiguru Rabindranath Smriti Vidyabhawan HS+2 school, the birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore was celebrated with great fervor. The program was inaugurated by the Vice Chairman of Damburnagar BAC Bikash Chakma, in the presence of Inspectors of the School of Damburnagar Taisa Mog, and others. The guests paid rich floral tributes to the portrait of Rabindranath Tagore, and several cultural programs were held as part of the celebration.
