At a time when the state is celebrating Durga Puja with all religious fervour, enthusiasm and pomp, Tripura natural Gas Company Ltd (TNGCL) all of a sudden increased the price of CNG putting thousands of vehicles and autorickshaws in a tight position.

On Saturday night the TNGCL  notified a steep hike of Rs 10.00 per cylinder of CNG . In the notification TNGCL said, CMG price was hiked to Rs 77.30 per kg in West District . The previous rate was Rs 68.00. In other districts price was made Rs 81.30 as against previous Rs 72.00.

Sucha steep hike hit the transportation sector here badly—both private and also of those running the auto rickshaws.

Already there were allegations of less number of CNG stations in the state against the ever increasing CNG vehicles. There were also perennial problem of ‘less pressure’ in the CNG outlets that resulted in unfilled vehicle tankers. Already for the last few days there were long serpentine queues of the CNG vehicles for the CNG in some of the outlets while some were outlets not delivering the gas.

Now with the hikes prices while the private CNG car owners would have to fork out extra money , the CNG run auto rickshaws would be left with no other option but to increase the passenger fare too. At the receiving end would the common people as most of the auto rickshaws were CNG run in the state.

Already the CITU backed Auto rickshaws went for protest and put up a road blockade at Bordowali area.
