Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha reiterated the state government’s commitment to industrial development in a bid to realize the vision of an Atmanirbhar (self-reliant) Tripura, aligned with the vision set forth by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Dr. Saha made these remarks during the inaugural session of a four-day Roundtable on Forest and Agro-Forest Value Chain Development, organized by the Industries and Commerce department at a private hotel in Agartala.
The event held significance in preparation for the upcoming 3rd International Buyer-Seller Meet of Agarwood Products. The objective is to boost the Agarwood sector and transition it into a significant contributor to Tripura’s economy, aiming to generate substantial revenue from Agarwood over the next five years. This meet is scheduled to take place in Agartala from October 5-7.
The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of forest resources and forest-based industries in the state’s economic growth. Tripura is rich in natural and forest resources, particularly in the Agar sector. In response to this potential, the state government had previously launched an Agarwood Policy in July 2021. Additionally, the Central Government allocated export quotas for Agarwood products, making it easier for investors to come to Tripura and invest in Agar-based industries.
Dr. Saha also highlighted the significant developments in connectivity that have taken place in the state over the past few years. Improved infrastructure and connectivity are critical for attracting investments and fostering economic growth.
Furthermore, the Chief Minister stressed the need for developing eco-tourism in the state. He mentioned that a company called “Tripura Nature Trails and Resource Limited” has been entrusted with the development of Sepahijala and Gomati wildlife sanctuaries, further enhancing the potential for eco-tourism.
The event was attended by key figures, including Minister for Industries and Commerce Santana Chakma, Principal Secretary of Industries and Commerce K.S. Sethi, Addl. PCCF (Principal Chief Conservator of Forests) V.G. Jenner, Director of Industries and Commerce Viswashree B., and others. It reflects the government’s commitment to fostering industrial growth, leveraging natural resources, and enhancing Tripura’s economic self-reliance.
