Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha who also happened to be an eminent maxillofacial surgeon took up the scalpel after almost one year and conducted a successful Oral Cystic Lesion surgery on a young boy.
As the Chief Minister entered his old workplace Tripura Medical College –where he had been the head of the Oral and Maxillofacial department before taking over the charge of Chief Minister of the state- doctors, nurses, paramedic staff gave him- a rousing welcome.
After some pleasantries with old colleagues Dr Saha discussed the medical matters with other doctors of the department and then went straight to business: he donned his green surgical gown and went to operation theatre. There he performed the surgery the way he used to do as a professor of the Medical College. Others present in the team were Dental specialist of the Hospital Dr. Amit Lal Goswami, Dr. Puja Debnath, Dr. Rajib Debnath, Anesthesist Dr. Kongchai Choudhury, Dr. Paramita Das and other health care workers
“In fact, I decided that this morning I shall not get occupied with any administrative or political works but shall get back to the operation theatre. It was great feeling to return to my original profession-to help patients as a doctor. It is very comforting. It is where I spent more than 20 years. I have conducted the operation after many months yet there was no problem”, he said.
“My colleagues in the operation theatre also told me that they noticed even after son many days my hands were steady with the scalpel”, the Chief Minister added.
He said the patient Aksit Ghosh, son of Sukanta Ghosh- is perfectly well now.
“The surgery was successful and smooth”, he said. The patient will be discharged soon.
All senior doctors including Superintendent Dr Arindam Datta, nurses and para medic staff were present with the Chief Minister when he talked to the media after the surgery. The Chief Minister enquired about the hospital services in presence of CEO of Managing Society of Tripura Medical College and Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Memorial Teaching Hospital Swapan Saha, Medical Superintendent of the Hospital Jayanta Kumar Poddar, Head of Optic section of the Hospital Dr. A. K. Chakma and other doctors. Later, the Chief Minister also visited the dental section of the Hospital.
