CM launches ambitious training project for ST girls

Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb launched an ambitious project – 18-months Free Residential Programme in Software programming. The project is an Initiative of Tribal Welfare Department and NavGurukul Foundation .

With an aim to provide guaranteed job/placement in private start-up and  Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) to the girls/women/transgender from marginalized families and to impart leadership and English speaking skills, the Tribal Welfare Department took up the initiative to establish a full-fledged Training Centre in Agartala for 18 months Software Diploma Course. This would be a 150 seated campus for Girls who would be imparted free Job Linked Training in Software Programming in collaboration with NavGurukul Foundation, Haryana. Mevar Kumar Jamatia, Minister, Tribal Welfare was present at the programme.

NavGurukul is an NGO working towards the financial empowerment of students from underprivileged sections of society having its registered office in Gurugram, Haryana and campus in Bengaluru, Karnataka and also Dharamsala. The Foundation guarantees job/placement in private start-ups and SMEs after the completion of the program with minimum starting pay of Rs.15,000/- per month and Rs.20,000/- per month in Small & big cities respectively.

A press communiqué said, NavGurukul in collaboration with Tribal Welfare Department aimed for mobilization of girls throughout the state with at least Class X  pass standard and not aiming at any career oriented higher study etc. The mobilization was conducted and girls were selected from the districts through stages of online tests and interviews. The entire program (including fooding, lodging) is fully sponsored by the NavGurukul foundation. Many of the alumni of this Institute (NavGurukul) are placed in reputed organization such as Mindtree through works and Unacademy amongst others.

The Tribal Welfare Department has sent four girls for undergoing course at NavGurukul, Bangalore Campus. Total 4184.ST girls had been registered in the NavGurukul Programme as on date, out of  who 935  girls have appeared in the screening test and 62 have been selected in two phases (First Phase-14 nos., Second Phase-48 nos.). For the second phase with target of 150 girls the Tribal Welfare Department obtained NOC from Youth Affairs and Sports Department for utilizing Shaheed Bhagat Singh Youth Hostel as NavGurukul, Agartala Campus and training would be conducted in batches of 150 each.
