Chinese, Philippine Vessels Collide Near Spratly Islands Amid Renewed Tensions

Must Read

Tensions flared again in the South China Sea after a collision between a Chinese coast guard ship and a Philippine government vessel near the disputed Spratly Islands today. The Philippines accused China of deliberately ramming the vessel and using water cannons near Thitu Island, where Filipino vessels were stationed to support local fishermen.

Beijing denied the claim, saying the Philippine vessel ignored warnings and caused the collision while illegally entering Chinese waters. China called its actions lawful and professional. The clash adds to ongoing maritime disputes in the resource-rich South China Sea, which multiple nations claim. Despite a 2016 international ruling favouring the Philippines, China continues to assert sweeping territorial claims in the region.
