Upholding Humanity Beyond Crisis

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Saha emphasized that the essence of humanity should not only be preserved during times of war or disaster but also as a fundamental part of daily life. He urged everyone to contribute to maintaining humanitarian values, stating, “We have to play a special role in keeping humanity alive—not only in times of war or disaster, but also in everyday life—and that everyone must make efforts to ensure humanity is not neglected.”

He further remarked that the state government is committed to working transparently under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Dr. Saha praised the Red Cross Society’s initiative, noting that it comes at a time when the world needs to reaffirm humanitarian values amid various challenges.

Significance of Red Cross Day

World Red Cross Day is observed on May 8 globally to commemorate the birth anniversary of Henry Dunant, the founder of the Red Cross Movement. Dr. Saha pointed out that the day reminds society of the importance of compassion and service, especially when humanity seems to be on the decline. “This program of the Red Cross Society is very important, especially at a time when humanity appears to be declining all around,” he said.

Honoring Medical Service Providers

Acknowledging the tireless work of doctors and health workers, Dr. Saha called for greater appreciation of their contributions. He highlighted the positive outcomes achieved at GB Hospital, where many patients recover daily, despite the tendency to focus on negative incidents. He remarked, “Trying to reach a throne by blaming others is like living in a fool’s paradise.” The Chief Minister urged the public to acknowledge the dedication of healthcare professionals rather than resort to criticism during isolated unfortunate events.

Dr. Saha also stressed the importance of maintaining a balance between the demand and supply of blood, underscoring the vital role of consistent blood donation efforts.

Commitment to Support Red Cross Initiatives

The Chief Minister reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to supporting the humanitarian work of the Red Cross Society. He appreciated the active involvement of various stakeholders in making the blood donation camp a success.

The event witnessed the presence of prominent dignitaries, including BK Roy, Chairman of the State Branch of the Red Cross Society, Vice President Paramananda Banerjee, Secretary Chandan Debnath, and West District Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar, among other office bearers. The collective efforts of the organizers and volunteers received commendation for promoting the spirit of humanity and community service.
