Chief coach Sjoerd Marijne appointed for Indian women’s hockey team

Sjoerd Marijne has been appointed as the chief coach of the Indian women’s hockey team. This announcement was made by Hockey India today. The Dutchman had led Indian women to a historic fourth-place finish at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, which was their second appearance at the quadrennial event in more than 36 years. 
 
 
Coach Marijne’s first big challenge as chief coach will be the FIH Hockey Women’s World Cup Qualifiers in Hyderabad, Telangana, which will take place from 8th to 14th March. He will arrive in India on 14th January, while the National Coaching Camp begins on 19th January in SAI, Bengaluru.
 
 
Hockey India President Dilip Tirkey extended gratitude to the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports andthe  Sports Authority of India for expediting the appointment in order to ensure the team’s preparations for the upcoming World Cup Qualifiers.
