The African Cheetahs who have been kept in enclosures at Kuno National Park of Madhya Pradesh will be released soon to roam free in the wild. Official sources in the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change said that the decision to release the Cheetahs and their cubs has been taken as per the recommendation of the Centre’s Cheetah Project Steering Committee. These Cheetahs will be released from their enclosures in a phased manner.

At present, there are 24 cheetahs including 12 cubs in this national park and the government is also in conversation with different countries to bring more cheetahs to the country. 

Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Bhupender Yadav has said that around 93 crore saplings were planted across the country under the Ek Ped Maa ke Naam initiative. He lauded the efforts of officers, social workers and people who took part and made the initiative a big success.

The Minister said that climate change, biodiversity loss and desertification of land are the three major challenges in the world. Mr Yadav emphasised that the government is committed towards a sustainable environment. He added that the government is working regularly towards its commitment to a greener world by shifting to renewable energy, lower carbon emissions and plastic ban
