First Adivasi mega conference was organised yesterday with the initiative of All Adivasi Association of Tripura at Belchara High School ground under Khowai sub-division.

The programme was inaugurated by the Union Minister of Tribal Affairs Arjun Munda in presence of State Tribal Welfare Minister Mevar Kumar Jamatia. Union Minister Arjun Munda in the programme said, the central government has taken up various plans for providing quality education to the Adivasis.

Initiatives have been taken to set up one Eklavya Residential School in each Adivasi populated block in the country.In this regard, permission has been granted this year to set up 463 Eklavya Residential Schools in the country. Not only that but the government has given priority to cultural development, health services, drinking water supply extension, Land Patta distribution under Forest Rights Act and overall development of the Adivasis. He said, emphasis has been given to ensuring Adivasi rights.

State Tribal Welfare Minister Mevar Kumar Jamatia in the programme said, the central and state government are working on various plans for tribal welfare. Priority has been given to their socio-economic and academic development. Others present in the programme were Khowai Zila Parishad SabhadhipatiJoydeb Debbarma, MLA Prasanta Debbarma, President of Jharkhand Bharat Munda Society Sushil Pahan, Soma Singh Munda, President of Odisha Bharat Munda Society Rabindra Singh Munda and President of Asia Young Indigenous Peoples Network (Philipines) Dr. Minakshi Munda. Welcome speech was delivered by member of All Adivasi Students Association of Tripura H. Munda. Total 11 exhibition stalls of different departments of state government and Self-Help Groups were opened in the programme.
