Trinamool Congress general Secretary Abhishek Banerjee who is presently campaigning in Tripura for party candidates in by-polls exhorted the electors not to split their votes among otrher opposition parties like Congress or CPM but cast their mandate in favour of the TMC unitedly.

Banerjee’s appeal to the voters made it clear that with several opposition parties sharing anti-BJP votes TMC’s victory chance would be severely reduced.

“Do not waste your votes by choosing Congress or CPI-M. Cast your voted unitedly in favour of the TMC. People should only vote for TMC to restore democracy, establish rule of law and solve unemployment problem”, he said in a press conference.

Banerjee also criticized the ruling BJP for ‘collapse of the law and order in the state and also for suppressing people’s voice”. He also touched upon unemployment problem in the state.

Banerjee alleged that two candidates of TMC– Panna Deb and Sanhita Banerjee  were attacked by BJP goons.

“Why I appeal to voters to exercise their democratic right fearlessly, because it is not a battle between BJP and TMC or other parties. It is a fight between the autocratic government and the masses,” he added.

Banerjee said, “We have been attacked since day one so that our message does not reach the people. Our rallies and meetings have been disrupted multiple times and our workers were even attacked. But, the threat and intimidation have only strengthened our resolve to fight for the people of Tripura.”

Banerjee urged people of Tripura to support TMC to win the fight to restore democracy in the state.
“We have been on the streets for your dignity and the safety of our women. But if we don’t have the people’s support, we will not be able to win this fight. This is not a political fight between different parties. The fight is between people of Tripura and BJP. This is a fight for democracy and safety of our people,” Banerjee said.

Meanwhile, a press release from TMC said a writ petition is being file before the High Court of Tripura on various issues including a request for security to all party leaders and their residence, removal of Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha’s photo from government web portals since he is also a candidate.
