The Commission for Air Quality Management in NCR and Adjoining Areas conducted a special inspection drive in Delhi to assess road dust and effectiveness of road cleaning operations across the city.
The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has informed that the commission deployed four flying squad teams for the inspection which was carried out yesterday. The Flying Squad Teams inspected 25 road stretches covering approximately 35 kilometres of the Inner and Outer ring road which come under the jurisdiction of the Public Works Department (PWD), Delhi.
The Ministry highlighted that the inspections, which were meant to seek strict implementation of road cleaning and dust mitigation measures, found 17 cases of violation. These violations include accumulation of construction and demolition waste and high visible road dust across inspected road stretches.
CAQM has directed PWD, Delhi and other concerned agencies to take appropriate corrective measures to control road dust on priority basis. It also added the inspection shall continue under Operation Clean Air across Delhi-NCR to assess on-ground implementation of various air pollution abatement measures.
