From now on married daughters – who are otherwise eligible- will be able to avail the die in harness benefit in the wake of their employed father or mother’s death, said ICA Minister Sushanta Chowdhury after the cabinet meeting held on Tuesday.

The change in the policy decision came as hitherto only the unmarried daughters, not the married ones, were eligible for availing of the die-in-harness jobs.

The state government now decided that a married daughter will also be eligible for the government jobs under the die-in-harness scheme, provided she is otherwise eligible and her father/ mother – age within 50 years-died while on the job. The married daughter however will have to produce a No Objection certificate from her father’s family members.

The new policy however barred the married daughter from availing the scope if her husband or son is in service.

The cabinet also decided to create new posts in different departments.

In another decision, the cabinet gave its nod to use plastic wastage in place of bitumen while constructing roads within 50km periphery of the Agartala city.

On new posts, Chowdhury said, “government will now recruit 1000 Police constables under the Home Department as decided on earlier cabinet meeting. While the cabinet, before the by-elections, gave its nod to recruit 500 Police constables – in today’s meeting, the cabinet has given the go ahead to recruit 500 Police constables”.

Besides, the minister said, a decision has been taken to recruit 100 Junior Physical Instructors under the Youth Affairs and Sports department and 60 Agriculture Officers through TPSC exams under the Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare department.

Moreover,  total 25 Supervisors will be recruited under the Social Welfare and Social Education department and 179 Animal Resource Development Assistants will be recruited under the ARDD, Choudhury said and added, total 22 persons will be recruited under the Industries and Commerce department out of which 16 persons for Senior Instructor post and 6 persons for the LDC post, he told the media.

Choudhury also talked about cabinet decisions pertaining to the creation of posts under different departments. The cabinet has decided to create 191 posts for Supervisors in the ICDS project under the Social Welfare and Social Education department. Besides, 20 new posts under the labour department and six posts of Youth Organizers under the Youth Affairs and Sports Department will be created, the Minister said.
