Boxanagar hosts Mann Ki Baat event as Governor Nallu highlights Tripura’s bamboo industry and pledges development of the historic Buddhist Stupa site, aiming to boost tourism, global recognition, and local employment opportunities in the region.

A community gathering in Tripura’s Boxanagar turned into a moment of pride and forward-looking commitment as students, officials, and residents came together to listen to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s latest “Mann Ki Baat” broadcast. The special event, hosted at Vidyajyoti Higher Secondary School on Sunday, highlighted local heritage while also setting the stage for future tourism development in the region.

Tripura Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu attended the programme and joined students in listening to the 133rd edition of the monthly address. He was received with a traditional welcome by local MLA Tafazzal Hossain, reflecting the cultural warmth of the region. The event commenced with the National Anthem, followed by active participation from students and dignitaries, including senior district officials and education authorities.

During the broadcast, Prime Minister Modi drew attention to Tripura’s flourishing bamboo cottage industry, applauding the craftsmanship of local artisans. He noted that bamboo products from the state are increasingly gaining recognition in metropolitan markets such as Mumbai and Delhi. Emphasizing the importance of scaling up, the Prime Minister encouraged artisans to explore global opportunities and expand their reach to international markets.

The mention of Tripura in the national broadcast was met with enthusiasm among attendees, who described it as a moment of pride for the state. Many students expressed excitement at seeing their local traditions highlighted on a national platform, reinforcing a sense of cultural identity and aspiration.

Addressing the gathering after the broadcast, Governor Nallu praised the state’s achievements and echoed the Prime Minister’s sentiments. He remarked that Tripura’s bamboo industry is steadily progressing toward global recognition and has the potential to become a key driver of economic growth. He also interacted with students, encouraging them to pursue education with dedication and optimism for the future.

Following the event, the Governor visited the historic Buddhist Stupa site in Boxanagar, a significant archaeological landmark that has attracted attention for its cultural and historical value. Spread across approximately two hectares, the site includes three ancient structures uncovered during excavations conducted between 2002 and 2010. Over time, it has emerged as an important destination on the tourism map.

Officials noted that infrastructure development is already underway to support visitors, including the construction of a guest house worth nearly Rs 5 crore by the Tourism Department. During his visit, Governor Nallu emphasized the importance of further enhancing the site’s facilities and visibility.
