Proceedings of both the Houses today marred by the opposition uproar leading to the adjournment of the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha for the day. The opposition parties were demanding discussion on Operation Sindoor and Special Intensive Revision initiative in Bihar and other issues.
When the Lok Sabha assembled after the second adjournment at 2 PM, opposition members again started sloganeering pressing for their demands. The Presiding Officer urged the members to allow the House to function and go back to their seats.
The Chair assured that discussion will be held on the issues. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju condemned the disruption, accusing the opposition parties that they do not want discussion. He said, in the Business Advisory Committee meeting held yesterday, it was decided to conduct discussion on Operation Sindoor.
He questioned the opposition’s intention saying that the government is ready for the discussion but they are engaged in disruption.
After the repeated appeal by the Chair, the opposition continued with the sloganeering and trooped into the well. As the pandemonium continued, the Chair adjourned the House for the day.
Earlier, when the Lok Sabha met after the first adjournment at 12 noon, the opposition members again started sloganeering on various issues and trooped into the well. Presiding Officer Jagdambika Pal appealed to the opposition MPs to allow the House to function but they did not pay heed to his request.
Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs, Arjun Ram Meghwal, also requested the opposition to cooperate inthe smooth transaction of the business. He said the government is ready to discuss every issue under the rules.
The Chair also said that the government is ready to allow discussion on Operation Sindoor, for which 16 hours have been allocated for the debate as decided during the Business Advisory Committee meeting. Amidst din, the Chair adjourned the House till 2 PM. In the morning, when the Lok Sabha assembled at 11 AM, the Opposition MPs created ruckus in the House.
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla appealed to the opposition to allow Question Hour. Echoing the same view, Agriculture and Farmer Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan also requested the protesting members to cooperate in smooth conduct of the business as most of the questions are related to farmers’ concerns.
The Rajya Sabha also witnessed similar scenes as the opposition parties protested in the House demanding discussion on Special Intensive Revision in Bihar and Operation Sindoor among others. When the House met at 11 AM this morning, the opposition parties including Congress, DMK, RJD, Samajwadi Party and others started sloganeering.
Deputy Chairman Harivansh urged the protesting members to allow the House to function, but in vain. Amid the noisy scene, the Chair adjourned the House till 12 noon. The scene was no different when the House assembled after the first adjournment at 12 Noon.
The opposition members again pressed for discussion on Special Intensive Revision of electoral roll in Bihar. Presiding Officer Ghanshyam Tiwari tried to take up the Question Hour but it was not transacted due to the opposition’s continued protest.
Meanwhile, the Chair also conveyed the House regarding the Home Ministry notification about resignation of Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar. Amid din, the Chair adjourned the House till 2 PM. When the House assembled at 2 PM, a similar scene was witnessed forcing the Chair to adjourn the House for the day.
