Varun Dhawan takes on a knuckle push-up challenge with cadets on the set of Border 2, a sequel based on the 1999 Kargil War. Co-starring Sunny Deol, Ahan Shetty, and Diljit Dosanjh, the patriotic war drama is set for a grand release on January 23, 2026.

Bollywood actor Varun Dhawan, known for his high-energy performances and dedication to fitness, recently took part in a special challenge while shooting for the upcoming war drama Border 2. The actor joined a group of young cadets at the National Defence Academy (NDA) in Pune for a knuckle push-up challenge, impressing everyone by completing 50 knuckle push-ups alongside the jawans.

The memorable moment was shared by Varun himself on his Instagram handle, where he posted a behind-the-scenes video from the set. In the caption, the October actor wrote: “BORDER2…Hamare saare young cadets ke saath knuckle challenge. #bts.” The video shows the actor fully immersed in the activity, bonding with the cadets in an inspiring display of camaraderie and physical strength. Upon completing the challenge, the young cadets expressed their admiration by warmly shaking hands with him.

The scene is from the ongoing shoot of Border 2, the highly anticipated sequel to the 1997 war epic Border, which was based on the historic Battle of Longewala during the 1971 Indo-Pak war. This time, the sequel is expected to focus on the events surrounding the 1999 Kargil War, a significant chapter in India’s military history. During this conflict, Pakistani soldiers and militants infiltrated across the Line of Control (LoC), occupying Indian territory, especially in the Kargil sector of Jammu and Kashmir. The Indian Armed Forces launched a massive counteroffensive and managed to reclaim almost 75% to 80% of the occupied territory, including strategic high ground positions.

Directed by Anurag Singh and produced by Bhushan Kumar in collaboration with Nidhi Dutta, Shiv Chanana, and Binoy Gandhi, Border 2 is backed by Gulshan Kumar & T-Series, along with JP Dutta’s J.P. Films. The film marks the return of Sunny Deol in his iconic soldier role, and he will be joined by an ensemble cast including Varun Dhawan, Ahan Shetty, and Diljit Dosanjh.

This project holds special significance as it builds upon the legacy of Border, which was written, produced, and directed by JP Dutta himself. The original film became a patriotic milestone in Indian cinema and is still remembered for its emotional depth, stirring soundtrack, and impactful performances.

Adding to the anticipation, Varun Dhawan has also surprised fans with a fresh new look for the movie. The actor was earlier spotted with a mustache during the initial shoot but is now seen with a clean-shaven appearance as the film enters a new schedule at the NDA. His transformation hints at the detailed characterization and dynamic storytelling that Border 2 promises to deliver.

With a power-packed cast, patriotic theme, and emotional resonance, Border 2 is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated releases in Indian cinema. The film is slated for a grand theatrical release on January 23, 2026, just ahead of India’s Republic Day, making it a fitting tribute to the valor of the Indian Armed Forces.

Fans of the original film and new audiences alike are eagerly waiting to see how this modern retelling will honor the bravery and sacrifice of Indian soldiers during the Kargil War. Varun Dhawan’s enthusiastic participation in the knuckle push-up challenge with the cadets not only demonstrates his dedication to the role but also sets the tone for the authentic military spirit that the film aims to capture.
