The Bombay High Court has directed the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to respond to a petition filed by Samrat Cinematics, alleging “arbitrary, unreasonable and unexplained” delay in certifying their upcoming film Ajey: The Untold Story of a Yogi, based on Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. A bench of Justices Revat Mohite-Dere and Neela Gokhale issued notice to the CBFC and posted the matter for hearing on July 17. The court remarked that the Board was bound by statutory timelines under the Cinematograph Act, 1952, and the Cinematograph (Certification) Rules, 2024, and could not ignore its obligations.
