BJP state unit president Dr Manik Saha will be the party candidate in 8-Bordowali constituency in the next by elections to the seat, said party sources. The seat fell vacant after resignation of incumbent legislator Asish Saha who joined the Congress.
It is now almost confirmed that the state government will request the Election Commission of India to announce by elections to the four seats- Agartala, Bordowali, Surma and Jubarajnagar. If Speaker Ratan Chakrabarty accepts resignation of IPFT MLA Brishaketu Debbarma , by poll will be held in Simna constituency too.
Highly placed sources in the BJP said, while Bordowali seat’s party nominee has been more or less confirmed- Dr Manik Saha – the candidate for 6- Agartala constituency has not been finalized yet. Party’s first choice was Dr Ashok Sinha but he declined to join the fray. Now three more names are being considered among them TIDC chairman Tinku Roy and BJP Mahlia Morcha leader Papiya Datta are the front runners.
The name for the seat will be finalized soon. Dr Saha was unanimously chosen the candidate for the Bordowali constituency.
As for other two seats, Surma and Jubarajnagar nothing much was discussed in the party, and sources said, the nominations will be given to the most suitable persons there.
In the meantime, Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb who returned from Manipur after addressing poll rallies there today held a meeting with ministers, MLAs and party leaders to discuss the present political development scenario of the state.
BJP Tripura president Dr. Manik Saha, two general secretaries of the party and many other state leaders along with Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Verma and other BJP and IPFT members of the state cabinet were present in the meeting. IPFT MLAs Prem Kumar Reang (Kanchanpur) and Dhananjoy Tripura (Raima Valley) were also present.
