BJP Nagaland has joined the 90-day Atmanirbhar Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan to revive Swadeshi spirit, promoting local products and self-reliance. Deputy CM Yanthungo Patton urged citizens to support Indian goods for a culturally proud and economically strong India.

The Nagaland unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has joined the nationwide Atmanirbhar Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan, a 90-day campaign designed to rekindle India’s Swadeshi spirit and promote economic self-reliance. The campaign, launched on September 25 in Delhi, aims to fulfil Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of building a self-reliant India by encouraging citizens to adopt, support, and promote Indian-made products.

The Nagaland chapter of the campaign was officially launched on Monday at the BJP state headquarters in Kohima by Yanthungo Patton, the Deputy Chief Minister and leader of the BJP Legislature Party. Speaking on the occasion, Patton described the initiative as a reaffirmation of the Swadeshi pledge, calling it the very foundation of the Atmanirbhar Bharat movement.

He said that the campaign is not just an economic initiative but a cultural and national commitment. “Adopting indigenous products is not only an economic decision but also an expression of cultural pride and national responsibility. The call of ‘Har Ghar Swadeshi, Ghar-Ghar Swadeshi’ captures the essence of this mission,” he remarked.

Reviving the Spirit of Swadeshi

Tracing the historical roots of the Swadeshi movement, Patton highlighted its vital role in India’s freedom struggle under the leadership of great national icons like Lokmanya Tilak, Sri Aurobindo, and Mahatma Gandhi. The movement, he said, laid the foundation for economic nationalism, self-reliance, and empowerment of local communities.

“The Atmanirbhar Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan seeks to rekindle that same spirit today, encouraging every citizen to support Indian-made products, nurture local industries, and empower entrepreneurs. This is a campaign that reminds us that India’s strength lies in the creativity and capability of its people,” Patton stated.

A Legacy of Self-Reliance

Patton also recalled how the Swadeshi spirit was revived after Independence, particularly in 1964 when RSS Pracharak Dattopant Thengadi emphasized economic self-sufficiency as an essential element of national security. This vision later evolved into the Atmanirbhar Bharat movement of 1991, which has gained renewed vigour under Prime Minister Modi through several flagship initiatives such as Make in India, Startup India, Digital India, and Vocal for Local.

“These initiatives,” Patton said, “have collectively strengthened the three key pillars of national development — Swadeshi (promotion of Indian goods), Swabhasha (promotion of Indian languages and indigenous knowledge), and Swabhusha (heritage, design, and aesthetics). Together, they form the foundation of Viksit Bharat or Developed India.”

India’s Achievements in Self-Reliance

Reflecting on India’s recent achievements, Patton highlighted how the country’s response during the Covid-19 pandemic became a symbol of resilience and innovation. Within a few months, India transformed from being dependent on imports for PPE kits to manufacturing crores of PPEs, ventilators, and vaccines domestically.

“Not only did India protect its own citizens, but through the Vaccine Maitri initiative, we extended life-saving vaccines to over 100 countries. This is the true embodiment of Atmanirbhar Bharat — self-reliant yet globally responsible,” Patton observed.

He also cited India’s progress in renewable energy, noting that the country has already achieved its target of sourcing 50 per cent of its installed energy capacity from green sources by 2025 — a milestone reached ahead of schedule.

Defence Production and Industrial Growth

The Deputy Chief Minister praised the success of the Make in India programme, under which India has significantly advanced in defence manufacturing. Indigenous production now includes tanks, artillery, drones, and the locally designed fighter aircraft Tejas LCA Mk1A, symbolising India’s growing technological capabilities and strategic independence.

Patton said these achievements were a testament to the leadership of Prime Minister Modi and the government’s emphasis on innovation-driven development. “The Atmanirbhar Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan is a movement of empowerment — from villages to cities, from artisans to industrialists. Nagaland proudly joins this national mission to make India a global powerhouse,” he added.

Empowering Local Economies in Nagaland

The Nagaland BJP’s participation in the campaign is expected to give a major push to local entrepreneurship and traditional industries. Patton encouraged citizens to buy, use, and promote products made in Nagaland, including handloom, handicrafts, organic produce, and indigenous food items.

He said that by adopting the Swadeshi way of living, Nagaland can strengthen its economy, preserve its culture, and contribute to the larger vision of a self-reliant India. The campaign will include workshops, awareness drives, exhibitions, and interactions with local artisans and entrepreneurs to promote locally produced goods.

As the 90-day campaign continues across India, the BJP’s Nagaland unit’s active participation marks an important step in reinforcing national unity and economic independence. Through the Atmanirbhar Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan, the state aligns itself with the broader mission of building a Viksit Bharat — an India that stands tall on its own strength while contributing to global progress.
