Burbamohan Tripura , BJP MLA submitted his resignation from the Legislative assembly on Friday even as the House was in session. Tripura submitted his resignation to Speaker Ratan Chakrabarty. He is likely to submit his resignation from the BJP also today itself. He was accompanied by TIPRA Motha chairman Pradyot Kishore Debbarman and former MLA Brishaketu Debbarma.
He was elected from Karbook constituency in 2018 as a BJP candidate.
Burbamohan was reportedly not happy with the BJP for quite some time and he was maintaining close relations with the TIPRA Motha. Sources indicated that he would now join the TIPRA Motha.
Though the BJP was well aware of Burbamohan’s dissatisfaction with the party , the resignation, nonetheless, came a bolt from the blue. Only yesterday he voted in favour BJP’s Rajya Sabha candidate and former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb. What was more his resignation came when the Assembly session was going on—in fact he submitted his papers on the very first day of the sitting.
Burbamohan’s resignation would definitely serve as a severe jolt to the BJP as the state would be going to the assembly polls in next February only. The ruling party was already struggling hard to retain its hold in the tribal areas under the shadow of the aggressive political campaign of the TIPRA Motha. Only recently the party lost its leader in the TTAADC to the TIPRA Motha, and now Burbamohan Tripura.
Earlier, BJP lost its three MLAs –Asish Das of 46 Surma constituency and Sudip Roy Barman from 6 Agartala constituency, Asish Saha of Bordowali -one was disqualified and the two others resigned on their own.
Burbamohan did not spell out his future course action as yet, but it is highly likely that soon he would announce his joining to TIPRA Motha.
No comment was available from the BJP as yet.
