The North Tripura BJP submitted a deputation to the ADM in Dharmanagar, alleging traders’ non-compliance with GST rate reductions on essential goods. The administration assured action through a special investigation to ensure benefits reach consumers.

The North Tripura District unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday submitted a deputation to the Additional District Magistrate (ADM), alleging irregularities in the implementation of revised Goods and Services Tax (GST) rates by certain traders in the Dharmanagar region.

According to local reports, the Central Government recently reduced GST rates on several essential commodities to provide financial relief to the common public amid rising costs. However, complaints have surfaced that a section of traders in different parts of North Tripura has failed to pass on these benefits to consumers.

The BJP delegation expressed concern that despite the government’s clear directives, the price reductions were not being reflected in the local markets. The party representatives urged the district administration to conduct strict monitoring and ensure that all traders adhere to the revised GST norms so that the intended relief measures effectively reach the public.

“The Central Government has reduced GST to ease the burden on citizens. Unfortunately, some traders are ignoring this and continuing to charge higher prices. We want immediate administrative action to stop such irregularities,” a BJP district spokesperson stated after submitting the deputation.

In response, the Additional District Magistrate reportedly assured the delegation that the issue would be handled with priority. The ADM announced that a special investigation team (SIT) would soon be constituted to verify whether the benefits of the GST reductions are being properly transferred to consumers across the district.

The development reflects the BJP’s proactive approach in monitoring the ground-level implementation of Central Government schemes and ensuring consumer welfare. Local sources said that the district administration might issue fresh directives to all trading bodies, warning against non-compliance with GST regulations.

Officials also hinted that strict legal action could be taken against any trader found deliberately violating the updated GST structure or engaging in profiteering.

This move is expected to tighten GST enforcement in North Tripura and restore consumer confidence in the fair pricing of essential goods.
