Even as police arrested four persons – Prabir Saha, Bapan Saha, Sohel Rana and Madhav Debnath- all belonging to Congress for their involvement in the violence in a political clash at Routhkhola area in Bishalgarh on Wednesday, forensic teams and Bomb squads diffused two live bombs on Thursday.
Police sources said the situation became normal on Thursday despite an undercurrent of tension.
SDPO Bishalgarh Rahul Das said, police actions following the Wednesday violence was still on and all the culprits involved would be arrested.
The violent clash took place on Wednesday between political rivals and police had to open blank fire to disperse the mobs. The violence broke out after some campaign materials of BJP were allegedly damaged. In the sweeping free far all violence a Fire Service vehicle was damaged and five firemen were injured. It was alleged that the Congress workers were primarily responsible for the attack on BJP workers and even one Congress leader was allegedly seen handing over a pistol to a party worker openly.
It was alleged that the Congress workers were led by Joydeb Roy Barman launched a series of attacks and at that time some crude handmade bombs were also hurled at the opponents.
When the situation turned volatile, police fired tear gas shells and opened fire in the air to disperse the mob. A prohibitory order under section 144 Cr.P.C was also clamped to avoid any further untoward incident. The restriction was lifted on Thursday morning as the situation turned normal.
Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma and other BJP leaders visited the spot and held meetings with the senior police official.
