Former Pradesh Congress President, Birajit Sinha, took a critical stance against his own party’s leadership on Tuesday, accusing them of not considering his opinions and excluding him from decision-making processes. This candid criticism has once again highlighted the ongoing internal divisions within the Pradesh Congress.

Sinha’s remarks were made during the Tripura Pradesh Fishermen Congress Committee Executive Meeting while addressing questions from reporters. He expressed his frustration, stating, “The concept of INDIA adopted at the center to oust the BJP from power must be put into force in the state too. I suggested a formula to ensure the defeat of the BJP in the ensuing by-elections for Boxanagar and Dhanpur seats. But the state leadership of the Congress seems to have little interest in what I say.”

He further emphasized the critical state of the Congress’s political position in Tripura, stating, “The political position of the Congress in Tripura is at stake.”

Regarding Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman’s role as an invitee member of the Congress Working Committee (CWC), Sinha refrained from offering a direct comment, responding with a small smile and stating that he did not wish to comment on that matter.

During the day’s meeting, Sinha discussed various topics, including the formation of a Demand Committee for Community-Based Development Council aimed at safeguarding the rights and interests of over 20 tribes in the state. He emphasized the need for such councils for all communities to ensure that government facilities reach beneficiaries directly.

Sinha also criticized the ruling BJP government, stating, “The BJP formed Modality Committees for tribals but did nothing for their development. No initiative has been taken towards the welfare of the people in hilly areas.”

Touching upon the fisheries sector, the Congress MLA highlighted the need for improvement, saying, “Crores of funds come from the center for the development of the fishery sector. But even today, fish need to be imported from Andhra Pradesh and Bangladesh for festivities in the state.” He demanded government allowances for fishermen across the state and pledged that the Congress would lead a movement to make Tripura self-reliant in terms of fish production while enhancing the lives of fishermen.

Birajit Sinha’s candid remarks reflect the growing tensions within the Pradesh Congress and the challenges the party faces as it seeks to strengthen its position in the region.
