Biplab Kumar Deb as Rajya Sabha Member attended the Parliament’s Winter session on Wednesday for the first time and held discussion on various topics related to the state. While he focussed on the state’s rich cultural heritage and natural beauties Deb also lamented that due to absence of proactive endeavours from the Archaeological Survey of India state’s ancient archaeological remains, murals, curving etc are being damaged and destroyed. He pointed out that various ASI sites including Unakoti and Pilak in the state are not properly protected and preserved.
He said, there are huge potential for development of the state’s tourism sector through proper maintenance of the ASI sites. But, there is a gap in preservation of the ASI sites due to non-availability of an ASI circle office.
He demanded a full-scale circle office of Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) in Tripura as he felt that the could not only protected and preserved with a full some ASI office.
The former Chief Minister who became the first-time MP Rajya Sabha recently as incumbent Rajya Sabha Member Dr Manik Saha became the Chief Minister, started his speech by greeting the other members.
Deb started his speech by greeting everyone saying that it was his first day in the Upper House and that he would need support from the House in his new role. It was at the moment Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar, who officiated as the Chairman of Rajya Sabha on Wednesday, quipped in a lighter mood that like Deb, it was also the first day for him.
