Dhar one of the most prominent Marxist leaders pf the state was Covid infected. He was also a serious diabetic patient. After his condition deteriorated he was taken to a Kolkata hospital from GB Hospital.

Only recently CPM state secretary Gautam Das also passed away in a Kolkata hospital following Covid infection.

Party sources said at the initial stage in Kolkata he was in ventilation. Dhar’s condition remained stable for the few days but deteriorated fast for the last two days. He breathed his last at wee hours of Monday.

Dhar, a Central Committee member of the CPM, was considered the leading ideological interpretor of the state CPM and one of the most important political strategists. Before Gautam Das he was also party secretary in the state. His passing away served a severe jolt to the CPM which was going through a critical situation in the wake of its rout in the last assembly elections.

Party sources said, initiatives were taken to bring the mortal remains of the Dhar to Agartala.
