The State Level Bankers’ Committee (SLBC) held a special meeting chaired by Chief Secretary J.K. Sinha at the Secretariat on Monday to address the devastating impact of the recent floods in Tripura.
During the meeting, officials from various departments presented detailed reports on the extensive damage caused by the floods, which affected numerous areas across the state. The reports highlighted the significant losses in agriculture, fisheries, animal husbandry, and other sectors.
In a subsequent press conference, Finance Secretary Apurba Roy outlined the key discussions that took place during the meeting. Representatives from banks expressed their commitment to providing comprehensive support to the flood-affected population.
The banks pledged to organize relief camps in affected areas to offer financial assistance, including loans and assistance under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban and Rural). They also committed to supporting other government schemes such as the PMEGP, Swabalamban, PM Vishwakarma Scheme, Kisan Credit Card, educational loans, rural infrastructure development, and efforts to increase the Credit-Deposit Ratio.
Secretaries from various departments presented their assessments of the damage to the bank authorities. The Agriculture department is currently evaluating the extent of losses suffered by farmers and will share its findings with the banks within a week.
The Animal Resources Development and Fisheries departments reported significant losses due to the floods, including the destruction of infrastructure and livestock. Officials from Social Welfare, Education, Rural Development, Industry and Commerce, and Urban Development departments also presented reports on the losses incurred in their respective sectors.
The press conference was attended by Director of Group Insurance and Institutional Finance Rakhi Biswas and SLBC Convenor Khaturaj Krishna, among others. The meeting underscored the government’s and banking sector’s commitment to helping Tripura recover from the devastating effects of the floods.
