The Centre has said that around one lakh 65 thousand post offices are operational in the country. Of which around 16 thousand post offices are functioning in urban areas and more than one lakh 49 thousand post offices are functioning in rural areas.
Minister of State for Communications Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar said this in a written reply to a question in Lok Sabha today. He said all departmental post offices in the country have been computerized.
The Minister said that over one lakh 63 thousand post offices have been enabled to provide banking and other digital services under the India Post Payments Bank.
