Bangladesh Observes Holy Ashura with Solemnity and Tajia Procession in Dhaka –

Must Read

The holy Ashura, commemorating the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hossain Ibn Ali, a grandson of Prophet Hazrat Muhammad, is being observed today across Bangladesh with due religious solemnity.

On this day in the Hijri year of 61, Hazrat Imam, along with his family members and 72 followers, embraced the martyrdom in the hands of Yazid’s soldiers at the desert of Karbala to uphold the teachings of the Prophet.

The holy Ashura also known as Muharram, is regarded as the day of Karbala, a ‘mourning and heartbreaking event’, which has special religious significance for the Muslim community across the globe. Shia community members bring out a Tajia procession in Dhaka on the day.
The Tajia procession started from Imambara Husaini Dallan in Old Dhaka. The procession will end at Dhanmondi after parading Azimpur, Nilkhet, New Market and Science Laboratory.  However, police have banned carrying lethal weapons like metal weapons, knives, swords and other sharp weapons during the Tajia procession.

Marking the holy Ashura, Chief Adviser of Interim Government of Bangladesh, Prof Muhammad Yunus on Saturday laid emphasis on establishing ‘equality, justice and peace’ in society and wished for the ‘unity, solidarity and continuous progress’ of the Muslim Ummah.
