Bangladesh cricketer Tamim Iqbal has announced his retirement from international cricket. The left-handed batter recently met with the national selection panel which was preparing for the ICC Champions Trophy.
In a social media post yesterday, Tamim explained that his prolonged absence from international cricket made it clear the gap could not be bridged, leading to his decision to retire. The cricketer said, he took the decision after much deliberation.
Tamim concluded his career with 15,192 runs for Bangladesh, the second-highest in the country’s history after Mushfiqur Rahim. The 35-year-old scored 5134 runs in 70 Tests, 8357 runs in 243 ODIs, and 1758 runs in 78 T20Is. His final international appearance was against New Zealand in September 2023. Notably, Tamim had previously announced his retirement in 2023 but reversed the decision a day later.
