The Tripura Board of Secondary Education (TBSE) has released the 2025 ‘Bachar Bachao’ compartmental exam results, raising overall pass percentages to 88.24% for HS and 92.51% for Madhyamik. The exams offered a second chance for students who failed in up to two subjects.
The Tripura Board of Secondary Education (TBSE) has officially released the results of the much-anticipated ‘Bachar Bachao’ compartmental examinations for both the Higher Secondary (HS) and Madhyamik levels. The announcement was made on Thursday, marking the final stage of the 2025 academic session’s examination cycle.
The ‘Bachar Bachao’ initiative, as the name suggests, was introduced as a second-chance opportunity for students who had failed in one or two subjects in the regular board examinations. The move was aimed at reducing dropout rates and offering students a fair opportunity to improve their academic outcomes without losing a full academic year.
According to TBSE President Dhanajoy Gan Chowdhury, the compartmental exams were a critical intervention to support struggling students. “The compartmental exams provide a much-needed second chance. Students who failed in up to two subjects were allowed to reappear and improve their results. This is the last leg of the 2025 academic examination process,” he said during a press briefing.
Higher Secondary Results
For the Higher Secondary (HS) level, a total of 2,995 students were declared eligible to appear in the Bachar Bachao exams. Out of them, 2,710 students actually appeared in the examinations. Among these, 1,919 students managed to pass, while 791 were unable to clear the exams. This translates to a pass percentage of 70.81 percent at the HS level.
Gan Chowdhury highlighted that the performance of students in the compartmental exams has played a crucial role in enhancing the overall pass statistics. “Before the declaration of these results, the HS pass percentage stood at 79.29 percent. With the inclusion of successful candidates from the compartmental exams, the overall HS pass percentage has now increased to 88.24 percent,” he stated.
Madhyamik Level Outcomes
Similarly, at the Madhyamik level, a total of 3,155 students were eligible to take the Bachar Bachao exams. Of these, 2,772 students sat for the exams. Out of those who appeared, 1,757 students successfully passed, while 1,015 could not clear their subjects. This yields a pass percentage of 63.38 percent.
The impact of these results on the cumulative performance is equally noteworthy. “Previously, the Madhyamik pass rate was 86.53 percent. Following the inclusion of compartmental exam results, the overall pass percentage has climbed to 92.51 percent,” added Chowdhury.
Positive Educational Impact
This upward revision in the overall pass percentages is being seen as a win for the state’s education system. Educationists believe that the Bachar Bachao initiative has not only helped students but also strengthened the board’s commitment to inclusive education.
“This scheme has been instrumental in saving academic years for thousands of students,” remarked a senior education official. “It emphasizes the importance of academic resilience and the role of institutions in supporting students through difficulties.”
Parents and students alike have expressed relief and satisfaction at the opportunity provided through the compartmental exams. Many consider it a much-needed buffer against the high stakes of board examinations, especially in the wake of academic stress and pressure.
Future Prospects
As the 2025 academic session draws to a close with these final results, TBSE is likely to review the performance data and feedback to consider further reforms in its examination and evaluation processes. While the rise in pass percentages is encouraging, education authorities have also signaled the need for focused support programs for students who still struggle academically.

“The success of the Bachar Bachao initiative shows that there is merit in second chances. However, we must also address the root causes of failure and ensure early intervention,” Gan Chowdhury concluded.
With the results now published, students can collect their updated mark sheets from their respective schools in the coming days.
