Athawale reviews state’s progress in SC OBC welfare, satisfied

Ramdas Athawale , Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment reviewed various works under the SC and OBC Welfare departments at the State Guest House on Thursday and expressed his satisfaction at the results. In the review meeting Minister Bhagaban Das was with him.

Later Athawale praised the Biplab Kumar Deb-led government  for an overall growth of the people in the state. Athawale arrived in the state on Thursday, 

He said the budget of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment for 2020-21 is Rs. 1,29,239 crore– the amount is higher than the budgets of the previous governments.

According to Athawale, over 80 crore people of the country were already administered the Covid vaccines under the leadership of Pradhan Mantri Narendra Modi while vaccination of the remaining citizens would be done in the next 3 to 4 months.

Addressing the review meeting, he stressed on opening more residential schools and orphanages in the state.

Sharing details, he said 8.36 lakh bank accounts were opened under Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana till September and 2.67 lakh gas connections were provided till March, last year. Besides, 58,500 houses under PMAY (Gramin) and 53,000 houses under PMAY (Urban) were constructed while around 12.60 lakh people had received benefits from Ayushman Bharat scheme so far.

Athawale said Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid special focus on development of Tripura and the other states of the North East. Athawale said the central government was extending all necessary support to the Tripura government.

The Union Minister was apprised that 17,850 students including 12,491 OBC students were provided post-matric scholarship in 2019-20 and another 14,751 students were given pre-matric scholarship.

He was also informed that a commission was formed in the state for the Safai workers. According to a government press release, he was told that there were a total 7, 851 Safai workers in the state. At present, information was being collected about the homeless and landless Safai workers.

SC Welfare minister Bhagaban Das, MLA Dr. Dilip Das, Principal Secretary L.T. Darlong, Principal Secretary Sriram Taranikanti, OBC welfare secretary Tapas Roy, SC Welfare director Santosh Chandra Das and other officials were present in the meeting.
