The chief ministers of Assam and Meghalaya will meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah again to discuss the quick resolution of the decades-long inter-state boundary dispute.

The decision was taken during a crucial meeting held in Guwahati on Saturday evening between Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma and his Meghalaya counterpart Conrad Sangama along with some ministers of both the states.

Recently, the chief ministers of Assam and Meghalaya had met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi and submitted their recommendations to resolve the inter-state border row.

Assam Minister Pijush Hazarika said the chief ministers will meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah again.

“The final decision to resolve the inter-state boundary dispute will be taken by the Central government and the parliament. We have submitted our recommendations to the respective chief ministers. Both chief ministers of Assam and Meghalaya will again meet the Union Home Minister. The boundary demarcation is the subject of the Central government. Only the parliament can decide about the boundary between the two states,” Pijush Hazarika said.

Out of the 12 disputed areas, both states have addressed six points for resolution in the first phase and have each formed three regional committees.

There are 36 villages in the six points covering an area of 36.79 sq km.

The areas of dispute taken up by Assam for final settlement are – Hahim, Gizang, Tarabari, Boklapara, Khanapara-Pillingkata and Ratacherra.
