Assam sets up panel to implement Assam Accord

The Assam government has formed a eight-member sub-committee to prepare a framework for implementation of all the clauses of the Assam Accord.

The new committee will examine and prepare a framework for implementation of all clauses of Assam Accord in general with special emphasis on Clause 6 (High Level Committee Report), Clause 7, 9 and 10 along with updation of National Register of Citizens, issues of flood and erosion, rehabilitation of martyrs’ families and victims’ of Assam agitation and also in regard to the various problems faced by the state including potential for all round economic development.

In a notification issued by GD Tripati – Commissioner & Secretary of Implementation of Assam Accord department stated that, Assam minister of Implementation of Assam Accord department Atul Bora is the chairman of the new sub-committee and other members are – Water Resources minister Pijush Hazarika, Finance minister Ajanta Neog, All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) president Dipanka Kumar Nath, AASU general secretary Sankar Jyoti Baruah, AASU chief advisor Dr Samujjal Bhattacharya, AASU advisor Prakash Chandra Das and Uddip Jyoti Gogoi.

Sujata Suchibrata – Deputy Secretary of Implementation of Assam Accord department will act as the convenor of the sub-committee.

The sub-committee will submit its report to the state government within a period of three months for further course of action.
